Dear parents,
Above you will see a daily schedule that your child will be following during their day at school. This schedule is flexible and may be integrated with other subjects in the literacy block for a cross-curricular approach. Literacy time can be dedicated to other areas, for example, if the students are working on a large inquiry based project that integrates science and language curriculum areas.
I believe that mathematical skills are extremely important for students to develop so I integrated math into the schedule on a daily basis. Math could also be explored using a cross-curricular approach.
Some other subject that would need to be integrated into this schedule would be physical education and health and may be explored with the planning time teacher. These subjects may be integrated throughout the afternoon.
Play / exploration will be integrated into the literacy portion of the day through the use of GROW stations (Games, reading or writing). These stations are setup in a play-based way while encouraging student development of reading and writing skills.
Social skills will be encouraged and monitored throughout the day. Community building will be integrated throughout the various subjects depending on opportunities found within the school and greater community.
DPA and social studies/science time will often be used to explore the natural world outside the classroom and can be brought back into the classroom to further explore ideas that were sparked outside using an inquiry based approach.
If you have any questions regarding the daily schedule please reach out!
- Ms. Hamilton
